Croatia (officially the Republic of Croatia) is a country in Europe. It is placed mostly on the Balkan Peninsula, amongst the borderline of Central Europe. Being one of a few European countries outside the European Union, Croatia is expected to join the alliance in 2013.

The Croatian national football team (also known as The Blazers) played their first international game in 1940 (4-0 win over Switzerland). At the European football scene the team have reached quarterfinals of two UEFA EURO Championships: in 1996 and 2008. Croatia also have one third place at the FIFA World Cup in 1998. Prior to EURO 2012, all-time top goalscorer is Davor Šuker with 45 goals.
